Sticks and Stones
Words that are meant to hurt and even some that aren’t leave long lasting scars, which, though hidden, are barely below the surface. This series of portraits brings to the surface the hidden pains that are resident for many. The sitters in these portraits were each asked a series of questions about things that were said to them during their lifetime the pain of which has remained. During these questions, I wrote on their faces the words they were sharing with me using materials such as mascara, lipsticks, ink, charcoal, etc.
